Patreon Special Offer

To celebrate the release of the video about Shinto that I helped Greg Lam of Life Where I’m From to make, I am running a special offer on my Patreon.

Anyone who signs up before this month’s paid post (which will go up at 11:55pm Japan time on the 31st), and whose payment clears, will get one or more bonus essays. What you get depends on the level you sign up to.

$1

• Matsuri. The heart of Shinto practice.

$2

• Matsuri

• The Jinja Pack: At a Jinja, In a Jinja, and Shinto People

$5

• Matsuri

• The Jinja Pack: At a Jinja, In a Jinja, and Shinto People

• Matsuri In Detail: Kegarë and Haraë, Norito, Shinsen, and Kagura

$10

• Matsuri

• The Jinja Pack: At a Jinja, In a Jinja, and Shinto People

• Matsuri In Detail: Kegarë and Haraë, Norito, Shinsen, and Kagura

• Shinto in Society: Tennō: The Emperor in Shinto; Attitudes to Shinto; A History of Shinto; Yasukuni Jinja; Shinto in Anime and Manga; The Shinto Establishment

Obviously, everyone also gets this month’s essay, about the Daijōsai ritual performed at the accession of a new Tennō.

Existing patrons also get these bonus essays; the offer isn’t just for new supporters.

The essays will be sent out after payments have cleared; I am planning to do it on November 7th, as that is normally enough time. I will also contact people whose payments have not cleared, but note that Patreon does not tell me if payment problems are solved later. If your payment goes through late, you will still get the essays, but there may be a bit of a delay. If your payment for October does not go through, you will not get the bonus essays.

Thank you for your interest, and I hope that this tempts you into backing my Patreon.

  1. Hi there, I have heard of Patreon but I am not really sure how it works. Is this a one time donation or a pledge of commitment for a certain period of time? I appreciate the idea of a website dedicated to Shinto practice in English as it can be challenging to find in depth and meaningful information about it. I look forward to exploring your website and am glad to have been referred to the resource by Greg, thank you.

    1. Thanks for your interest.

Patreon is basically a subscription model, so by default you pay every month. However, there is no time commitment, so you can cancel at any time, including just after your first payment. Thus, it can be a one time donation. If you want to do it that way, you do need to remember to cancel your support after the first payment, or you will be charged again.

      I hope that helps.
